The Ultra Minute ⛰️ July 15, 2024
Ludovic Pommeret and Courtney Dauwalter win at Hardrock, Zach Miller recovers from appendicitis, and Salomon drops a short film you don’t want to miss
Happy Monday, ultrarunners. Here’s this week’s Ultra Minute.
This weekend was the legendary Hardrock 100, which runs in a loop through the San Juan mountains, starting and ending in Silverton, Colorado.
Ludovic Pommeret (48) won the men’s race, besting Kilian Jornet’s course record. Diego Pazos finished second and Jason Schlarb (46) rounded out the podium. On the women’s side, Courtney Dauwalter took the win (her third consecutive), beating her own course record by 2 minutes, and finishing 4th overall. Camille Bruyas took home second, with Katharina Hartmuth coming in third. Full results.
In his post-race interview with iRunFar, Ludovic Pommeret described his race as his most perfect yet:
Courtney was in the pain cave but dug deep and brought it home:
Zach Miller, a pre-race favorite, had an emergency operation for appendicitis and did not start as the race organization felt it was too soon. He spoke with Singletrack about it:
Meanwhile, Salomon dropped this video, which covers Courtney’s wild summer from last year where she raced Western States, Hardrock, and UTMB back-to-back-to-back and won all 3 - the first person to do so. It’s a jaw-dropping feat, and cool to get a behind-the-scenes look at what it took to pull it off.
Watching Courtney and Sally McRae last summer was incredible!
