Earlier this week Megan Eckert ran 636.5 miles in six days, winning the EMU Six-Day Race.
We covered the result in yesterday’s issue, but kept thinking about it all afternoon.. What does that actually look like? What was her pace? What was the course like? How did her pace change? How long and how often did she sleep or take breaks?
So I had fun and made something a little different for The Ultra Minute: an interactive story using the official lap data to explore her race.
My favorite view shows every completed lap across the six days, with indicators for day/night. There’s also a closer look at her pace, a comparison with the longest six-day performances, and a way to explore all 1,140 full laps, plus a little bit about the history of the six day event. Check it out here:
I thought her race deserved a closer look, and this seemed like a fun way to give it one. I’d love to hear what you think, and if you know someone who might find this interesting, please consider sending them the link.
Congrats on an incredible race, Megan!
